South Staffordshire Green Party campaigner Gary Burnett wins Bilbrook Parish Council By-Election

New Bilbrook councillor Gary Burnett

South Staffordshire Green Party campaigner Gary Burnett has won a by-election in the Lane Green ward of Bilbrook Parish Council. Gary won by a landslide with over 90% of the vote!

The by-election was called following the sad death of sitting Conservative councillor Robert Marshall. He held seats on four councils: Staffordshire County Council representing Codsall, South Staffordshire District Council representing Codsall South, and seats on both Bilbrook and Codsall Parish Councils.

The Green Party contested all four seats, winning in Bilbrook with 45 votes, compared to the Labour challenger's 4. Gary Burnett was also the candidate on the county seat where he achieved second place, behind Conservative winner Bob Spencer and ahead of the Labour candidate.

Commenting on his by-election win, Mr Burnett said "I feel humbled by the support I have received over the past few weeks and I look forward to serving the community of Bilbrook. Getting over 90% of the vote was a very pleasant shock, and I'm delighted by the confidence placed in me."

Gary is our second parish councillor in South Staffordshire, and takes the total councillor-count for the West Midlands region to 49.
